ARNOLD BARR
1930-2023
Arnold “Pinky” Barr passed away peacefully at 93 years of age on October 19th. He was born July 7,1930 in Springfield to the late Dora (Rosnick) and Joseph Barr. Arnold was predeceased by three brothers, six sisters, and one grandson. He graduated Classical High School then attended the University Of Massachusetts and was an Air Force ROTC Distinguished Military Graduate. During the Korean conflict from 1951 to 1956 Arnold was a pilot flying B-25s, B-29s, & C-47s and was the officer in charge of the 310th Bombing Control Room in Salina, KS. Upon completion of active service, he entered the Air Force Reserves, retiring twenty years later at the rank of Major. During this time, he also worked alongside his brothers at Barr Oil Company and later was a co-founder of Republic Oil Corporation. Arnold is survived by his wife of seventy years Rita (Baskin) Barr, his son Randy Barr, Daughter Vicki (Phil) Wacks, one sister, three granddaughters, and two great grandsons. Arnold was a member of Temple Beth Israel.
His passions in life were his wife and family, flying airplanes, and playing golf. Owning several airplanes, Arnold enjoyed taking friends and family on various trips and golf excursions. As a lifelong member of Twin Hills Country Club in Longmeadow, he was quite proud of scoring three holes in one and winning one President’s Cup. Wintering in Florida at Hunters Run Country Club, he scored another three holes in one and a club championship.
His Graveside service will be this Sunday October 22nd at 11:00 A.M. at Beth Israel Cemetery, Kings Highway West Springfield, MA
