Scott Charney, 69, of Longmeadow died Thursday, October 26, 2023 after a long battle with multiple myeloma. Scott was a long-practicing attorney in Springfield until his recent retirement. He worked as a Bar Advocate at the Hampden County District Court. Before graduating from Western New England Law School, he was a sports writer and concert reviewer for the Springfield Newspapers.
Scott was an avid Yankee fan and golfer. He loved music and had very eclectic tastes—rock, folk, blues. Springsteen, Dylan, John Prine, and Taj Mahal were among his favorites. Scott treasured his friends and kept them close. His buds at the VFW—Greg, Leslie, Brian, Mark, Dan, Jason, Tom and Steve –are among the highlights. He also enjoyed meeting friends in Key West and at the Samoset in Maine. Scott had to have the newest technology and many friends inherited his TV’s over the years. He was also famous for his Bloody Mary Mix.
Scott was predeceased by his parents, Isidore and Barbara Charney of Springfield. He leaves his wife, Marcia Charney; his sister, Hillary Charney, and her husband, David Pallotta; his nephew, Brian Freundlich, and his wife, Talika; his niece, Holly Freundlich, and her husband, Jesse Rinyu; and his great nephew, Beckett Freundlich.
The family wants to thank Tom and Carol Ransom, Greg and Leslie Ransom, Jason Moyer, and Barry Shatz for their support and transportation to his treatments at Dana Farber. At Dana Farber and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, we would like to thank the nurses, PAs, nurse practitioners and especially Dr. Jacob Laubach. We would also like to thank the nurses and doctors at D’Amour Center, especially Dr. Steingart.
Contributions in Scott’s memory may be made to the D’Amour Center in Springfield or to Dana Farber in Boston.
A celebration of Scott’s life will be held at a later date.
