It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Cynthia Louise Bailey on August 21, 2024, at the age of 65. She passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Cynthia (Cindy) was born on April 17, 1959, in Springfield, Massachusetts, to George and Lois Lackman. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and beloved sister.
Cindy is survived by her daughter, Erica Magaziner; son-in-law, Oldden Fox; and beloved grandson, Teddy. She is also survived by her brother, Charlie McGrevy, and sister-in-law, Tina McGrevy; nephews, Brennan, Patrick, and Garrett; her father, George Lackman; and siblings, George (Busy) Lackman and his wife Karen, Mary Grodzicki and her husband Mark, and Mark Lackman and his wife Lisa. She also leaves behind a large and loving extended family, all of whom will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert (Bobby) Bailey, and her cherished mother, Lois Lackman.
Cindy was a hairdresser for many years and loved her career. She enjoyed building lasting relationships with her clients and loved telling stories. Later in life, she became a homemaker, always priding herself on having a warm and welcoming home. She was an avid crafter, mainly crocheting and knitting, and used this talent to create many beautiful items, including blankets, hats, and scarves.
Cindy and Bobby were passionate about their Jewish faith and were dedicated members of Congregation Beth El, where they developed lifelong bonds with members of the congregation. Together, they shared a deep love for their community and found joy in meeting new people. Cindy cherished teaching others to crochet and developed lasting friendships through her local knitting groups and Genesis House community.
Cindy was passionate about volunteer work and giving back to her community. She channeled her love of crocheting to contribute to charitable causes, including her work with S.A.C.K. (Supporting A Community with Kindness), a nonprofit organization where people crochet, knit, or sew sacks, fill them with a bar of soap, and donate them to shelters, food pantries, veteran clinics, and social service agencies. She also loved donating to Operation Gratitude, The Springfield Rescue Mission, as well as other local and national charities.
Cindy always put the needs of others before her own and worked tirelessly to improve the lives of those around her.
She adored her family and was overjoyed to become a grandmother to her grandson Teddy, who is now 14 months old. Cindy loved singing and dancing with Teddy and watching their favorite show, Bluey.
Her family and friends will always remember her kindness, generosity, outgoing personality, and ability to make anyone feel comfortable and welcome. Cindy touched the lives of so many and left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 25th, at 10 a.m. at Beth El Cemetery in West Springfield, Massachusetts. A celebration of her life will follow at Temple Beth El in Springfield, Massachusetts.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Springfield Rescue Mission in Cindy’s memory. Cindy also asked that everyone take the time to contribute to their community in a meaningful way in her memory, whether through donations or volunteer work. Cindy valued charitable work so dearly and was grateful for the wonderful people she met along the way.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the oncology and hospice teams at Baystate Hospital for their compassionate care and constant support during Cindy’s final days. Your kindness brought comfort to us all in the most difficult of times, and we will forever be thankful.
Rest in peace, Mom. You’re with Bobby now, reunited in love. We will miss you every day, but we find comfort knowing this is not goodbye—only until we meet again.
