IN LOVING MEMORY OF

David Bruce

Amster

Obituary

David Amster, 81, passed away in his home in Enfield, Connecticut on Saturday 5/09/2026.

Born in 1945, David was the son of the late Vivian and Sidney Amster and brother to Lawrence Amster and was raised in Levittown, New York. He met the love of his life Marilyn at a sweet 16 dance and they never parted. He excelled as a salesman and went into business with his father and brother selling hand-made rugs. He moved to Enfield, Connecticut soon after having children and worked in advertising. On many occasions his coupon mailer would need to be collated and he employed some of the neighborhood kids to join in. He then purchased his first of three video stores and helped his parents move up to join in the family run business.

He loved movies, especially the oldies, and all kinds of music from classical to folk. And whenever he listened to something, it was so loud we could feel every note. He was a car enthusiast and could talk cars until well past midnight. Stamps were more than just a hobby, they were an education.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, two sons, Joseph, married to Diane, and Matthew along with three grandkids, Jake, Frankie, and Maxine. And was uncle to Jason, married to Jill (with children Charlie and Miles), Dan, and Rachel (with children Jacob and Jonah).

David was proud of what all the kids and grandkids have accomplished and interested in what they were up to. As the patriarch of the Amster family he made sure to bring everyone together often, including his infamous "known world parties" in the backyard. He never forgot an anniversary or birthday. And we always had a thanksgiving dinner that couldn't be beat.

A memorial service to celebrate David's life will be scheduled in the Summer.
