Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Diane “Dee” Freedman on May 12th, 2026, at the age of 88. Dee was born and raised in Rochester, NY on August 14, 1937 to the late Alfred and Miriam Ellowitch. She attended Brighton High School and spent her summers at Seneca Camp where she met the love of her life, Bob Freedman at the age of 18. She attended SUNY Buffalo where together with Bob, began a lifetime of adventure moving to various locations around the country and raising their three children.

Dee loved to spend time with Bob socializing, entertaining and traveling with many close friends throughout the years. Together they took many well-planned travel adventures to explore the culture and history of several areas of the world. During her working years, Diane was a welcome wagon and real estate agent where she enjoyed meeting and helping people become adjusted to their new locations. She was an avid bridge and mahjong player and enjoyed playing tennis well into her 70's. During her senior years, Dee loved to keep busy between her slices of heaven in Bonita Springs, FL and Lake Luzerne, NY, before settling into Ruth's House in Longmeadow, Mass in 2024 to be closer to family. With her friendly smile and warm heart, she was a good friend to many people and will be greatly missed.

Dee is survived by her loving children: Lori (Ron) Serpico, Karen (Henry) Alvarez, and Michael (Tricia) Freedman; her beloved grandchildren: Ben Tanzer (Matt), Sara Mann (Bobby), Eddie Alvarez, Jacob Freedman, Sam Freedman, Rachel Freedman, Mark Serpico (Tatum), and Jacyln Serpico (Dan); her great granddaughters Zoey, Jade, Lucia, and Aviva; and her sister June Rapowitz. She is predeceased by her loving husband Robert "Bob" of 62 years, her brother Herman, and her sisters Marilyn and Sandy.

Funeral services will be held at Sinai Temple in Springfield, MA on Friday, May 15th, 2026 at 10 am. Burial service will be held in Auburn, NY at Fort Hill Cemetery.
