Evelyn "Evey" Baron

June 21, 1924 — August 14, 2023

Evelyn Baron, 99, passed away August 14, 2023 at home surrounded and cared for by her family and a steady stream of caregivers who cherished her. Eveyln was born on June 21st, 1924, daughter of the late Louis and Ida (nee Labb) Davidson. She was the youngest of five children. Her siblings Agnes, Frances, Charlie and Albert, all predeceased her. In 1946 she married Sidney Baron, and they enjoyed 71 years together. They raised four children: Nancy, Cairo, Egypt; Glenn (Kathryn Holum) St Paul, MN; Ron (Irit Baniel) Brooklyn, NY and her beloved Bruce who died in 1996. She was the proud "Bubbe" of four granddaughters – Ruby, Marlee, Julia and our sweet Naomi, who died tragically in 2013. She is also survived by her nieces Myrna Robbins and Judy Shelasky (Steve) who were like sisters to her and a host of other nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great greats and even a few great, great, greats. She was our matriarch and we adored her. Tom Dempsey and his family became part of the family when Tom received the life-saving gift of Bruce's liver.

Evelyn spent her formative years in Springfield, MA and came of age during the Great Depression. After high school, Evey went straight to work but never gave up her dream of going to college. It wasn't until she was raising three children that she enrolled at Springfield College and earned her bachelor's degree followed by her master's degree in Social Work at the University of Connecticut. She went on to become the Executive Director of the ARC of Greater Enfield now called Allied Community Services where she left a profound legacy as an advocate for children and adults with disabilities.

In addition to her professional life, Evey led a vibrant life filled with lifelong learning, travel, social events and maintained loving connections with family, friends, colleagues, aides, and acquaintances who became enduring friends. Her brisket, kugel and Bubbe's macaroni were legendary. We honor Evey's fierce devotion to her family. She was warm and affectionate, generous, and inquisitive and all will remember her sweet smile.

Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 17th at 11:00 AM EST at Ascher-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 44 Sumner Street, Springfield, MA, with burial at Beth El Cemetery.
