Gloria Weissman, aged 100, passed away peacefully on Jan 15th, 2025, at Ruth's House Assisted Living Residence where she received loving care for more than a decade. She is predeceased by her parents Minnie and David Gordon, brothers Warren and Charles (Sheppy) Gordon and her husband of 60 years, Paul Weissman.
To know Gloria was to know extraordinary kindness; she leaves behind a legacy of acceptance, love, compassion and generosity.
Gloria's warmth and radiance was recognized by all who knew her, affording her the Classical High School superlative 'Class Sunbeam', and the affectionate nickname 'Glowbird' from Paul. Gloria worked briefly as a dental hygienist before becoming an incredible mother to her five children and a trusted confidant amongst the kids of the East Forest Park neighborhood, where she is remembered for delivering sage advice from her living room couch.
At 65, when most contemporaries were retiring, Gloria began a two decade stint behind the counter at Gus & Paul's Bakery & Deli alongside her husband and children. Gloria enjoyed volunteering, swimming, knitting and the Boston Red Sox, especially Nomar. You could often find Gloria noshing on a Gus and Paul's bagel or a slice of chocolate whipped cream cake, and she will be remembered for her impressive sweet tooth. She was a member of Kodimoh Synagogue.
Gloria is survived by her five children Larry, Debbie (Laurie Knowles), Stuart (Jocelyn Tobin), Lee (Allison) and Gordon. Raised by her own beloved Bubbe, Leah Horowitz, Gloria was adored by her 11 grandchildren, Kern (Olga), Zach, Nate, Jake, Sasha, Sarah, Jessica, Max, Gillian, Malcolm and Claudia.
Funeral Service will be held on Fri. Jan 17 at 1pm at Ascher-Zimmerman Funeral Home, with interment at Congregation Kodimoh Cemetery on Kings Highway in West Springfield. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please make donations to the Alzheimer's Association (
