Howard Irving Broad (Chaim Itzhoc), 96 passed away on July 10, 2026, at Hebrew Home in Rockville, Maryland. Howard was born on June 18, 1930 in Springfield, Massachusetts to Edna Fine Broad and Leon Broad. Howard grew up in Springfield and graduated from Classical High School. He attended Georgia Institute of Technology and received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management in 1953. Later he continued his studies receiving a Master of Business Education in 1961 from Western New England College.

During the Korean War, Howard was in the army and served in Fairbanks, Alaska. His career took him from Heublein, Inc in Hartford, Conn and then unto Chas T. Main and Stone and Webster Engineering Corp in Boston Mass. In that capacity he worked as a senior management system engineer and was at the forefront of information systems. He was a member of the faculty at University of Lowell graduate division, in Systems Design, Development and Mathematics. He also was a lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering at MIT in Cambridge, Mass.

Howard was wed to Louise (Leaha Dina) Gordon in Springfield, Mass on December 25, 1952. They resided in Springfield, Longmeadow, Newington, Wayland and West Palm Beach. Louise preceded him death in 2008. Howard is survived by his daughters Beth (Neal) Irving of Rockville, Maryland, Susan (Scott) Epstein of Grand Rapids, Michigan and his grandchildren Jessica (Nathan) Hall, Vanessa McIntosh, David (Jane) Irving, Rebecca (John) DeSanzo and Michael Epstein and two great grandchildren.

Despite being color blind, Howard was a gifted stained glass artist and dabbled in jewelry making, leather work and rug hooking. His family and friends are blessed with gifts of his creations which will keep his memory alive.

The funeral will be private and held graveside at City of Homes Cemetery, Tuesday, July 14th at noon.
