It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Howard Frank Libowitz, age 79, who died peacefully surrounded by his children on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.

Howard was born on February 28, 1947, in Springfield, Massachusetts, to the late Herman Libowitz and Mildred (Frank) Libowitz.

Howard's greatest joy in life was his family. He was a devoted and loving father to Scott Libowitz and his wife, Wendy, of Longmeadow, Massachusetts, and Cara Sutton and her husband, Stephen, of Simsbury, Connecticut. He was a proud and cherished grandfather to Alina Ehrlich and her husband, Brian, of South Orange, New Jersey; Emily Blitz and her husband, Jonathan, of London, England; and Sydney Sutton and Charlye Sutton, both of Simsbury, Connecticut. Howard took immense pride in each of his grandchildren and celebrated every milestone, accomplishment, and new chapter in their lives. Nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren grow.

He is also survived by his wife, Ellen Farber of Ogunquit, Maine; his brother, Charles Libowitz; his sister-in-law, Carol Libowitz; his beloved niece, Jamie Libowitz; the mother of his children, Nona Libowitz; and numerous loving cousins throughout the country.

Howard was proud to serve his country as a member of the Army National Guard.

In 1993, Howard along side his brother Charles, continued their family's legacy when they took over the family label business, which had been co-founded by their father, Herman, in 1963. They owned and operated Springfield Label & Tape Company until Charles retired in 2010. Howard continued to lead the company with pride, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to the values on which it was founded in 1963. Today, that legacy lives on through his son, Scott, who proudly carries the family tradition forward as the third generation to lead Springfield Label & Tape Company.

Howie, as he was known by his closest friends, was always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends, neighbors, or anyone in need, never expecting anything in return. He was a true people person who had a special ability to connect with others, making everyone around him feel welcomed and valued. He was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness and genuine concern for others touched countless lives. Whether through his time or his willingness to help, Howie made a lasting difference in the lives of those around him.

More than anything, Howard will be remembered for the love he had for his family. His strength, compassion, and quiet presence provided comfort and guidance to those who knew him best. Although our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, and the values he instilled in everyone fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Temple Beth El, 979 Dickinson Street, Springfield, Massachusetts with burial to follow at Temple Beth El Cemetery, 350 Kings Highway, West Springfield, Massachusetts.

Shiva will be observed on Friday, July 10, at 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, July 12, at 7:00 p.m. at the home of Scott and Wendy Libowitz, 158 Primrose Drive, Longmeadow, Massachusetts. Shiva will also be held on Monday, July 13, Tuesday, July 14, and Wednesday, July 15, at 7:00 p.m. at the home of Cara and Stephen Sutton, 45 Berkshire Way, Simsbury, Connecticut.
