In Loving Memory of I. Murray Levine
I. Murray Levine, a longtime resident of West Springfield, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on December 29. Born in Springfield, MA, Murray was the son of William and Doris (Barez) Levine. He was a proud graduate of Springfield Technical High School, class of 1956, and furthered his education at Springfield Technical Community College (STCC).
In 1957, Murray answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Army and training in EOD. He was stationed in West Germany, where he participated in peacekeeping operations in Lebanon and Turkey, a service that he held close to his heart throughout his life.
Murray dedicated 30 years to the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1998 from the Forest Park Station. He was a devoted member of Beth El Temple, the Jewish War Veterans, and a lifetime member of the Springfield Elks Lodge. His commitment to his community and country left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Murray was predeceased by his beloved wife of 48 years, Ann (Vosburgh) Levine, and his parents, William and Doris Levine. He is survived by his cherished children: William (Jennifer) Levine of West Springfield, Daniel (Kimberly) Levine of Wallingford, CT, and Deanna Levine of Norwalk, CT. His legacy lives on through his favorite grandson, Mark Wilson, a United States Marine Corps veteran of Vernon, CT, and favorite granddaughter Emily Levine of Wallingford, CT, who were the lights of his life.
Murray will be remembered for his warm heart, his sense of humor and the love he shared with his family, friends, and community. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service, and dedication to those he loved.
Murray’s funeral service will be Thursday Jan. 2nd at 9:30 AM at the Ascher-Zimmerman Funeral Home with burial following in the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can go to the charity of your choice.
