Dr. Irving T. Greenberg, 93, of Longmeadow, passed away on March 7, 2024. Irving was born on December 19, 1930 in Springfield, MA to the late Etta (Levin) and Louis Greenberg. He grew up in the north end of Springfield, along with his sister Lois, his cousins, and many lifelong friends. Irving lived in Longmeadow since 1963, most recently at Glenmeadow.
Irving is survived by his loving wife of over 67 years, Gale (Lassoff) Greenberg. He is also survived by his daughter Lynne Schiffer, son Evan Greenberg, grandchildren Molly Schiffer and her husband Myles McGowan, Jared Schiffer and Zachary Schiffer, and his sister Lois Kreitzman, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Irving graduated from Springfield’s Technical High School. He continued his education at AIC, UMass, earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the Temple University School of Dentistry. Irving was a US Army Sergeant in Korea where he served as a medic in 1952-54.
For over 50 years Irving maintained a private dental practice in Westfield MA. He was admired by his long-time employees, and generations of patients. Irving was an active member of the American Dental Association, Massachusetts Dental Society, Valley District Dental Society where he served on the Board of Directors, and Alpha Omega Dental Society where he was a past President.
He was a passionate fan of New England sports, following and cheering for his Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics. He was thrilled to witness championships of all his teams and enjoyed debating New York rivalries with his grandsons. Along with his wife Gale, Irving was a longtime patron of concerts at Tanglewood and the Springfield Symphony.
Irving will be forever remembered as a loving Son, Brother, Husband, Dad, Papa, Uncle, Cousin, Friend, and caring Dentist. He will be cherished for his jokes, fun, kindness, intelligence, and endless love of his family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday March 10th at Temple Beth El, 979 Dickinson Street, Springfield, MA, and burial immediately following in B’nai Jacob Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Temple Beth El, or to the Springfield Symphony Orchestra
