Isaac A. Stein

September 29, 1955 - November 24, 2025

Isaac A. Stein of Longmeadow, Massachusetts passed away surrounded by his family after a courageous nine-month battle with Glioblastoma. He was seventy years young. Born in Baku, Azerbaijan, he earned his master's degree in business from the Moscow Institute of Cooperative Trade before serving in the Soviet Army's air defense system, a chapter of his life that reflected the discipline, steadiness, and strength that would define him forever.

In 1989, Isaac immigrated to the United States with his wife, his two young daughters, his younger brother, and his family, and they settled together in Longmeadow, Massachusetts. He paved the way for the rest of their loved ones to follow, rebuilding their lives in a new country with determination, resilience, and unwavering hope. He went back to school and earned a second master's degree in computer science from Western New England College. With grit and tireless work, he built the American dream from the ground up and created a life filled with opportunity, community, and deep family love.

Isaac enjoyed a long and respected career in information technology, holding positions at Deloitte, MassMutual, KPMG, BearingPoint, the Connecticut Hospital Association, AIG, and most recently serving as the Vice President of Information Technology at Corebridge Financial. He was known for his remarkable problem-solving abilities, quickly identifying issues and working diligently until they were resolved. His colleagues relied on his clear judgment and calm, thoughtful approach whenever something needed to be understood or addressed.

Outside of work, Isaac's quick wit and smart humor were among his most memorable qualities. He had a natural gift for bringing laughter into any room. His warmth and timing made people feel instantly at ease, and his humor often became the glue that held gatherings together. He was truly loved and respected by everyone who knew him.

At home, Isaac's generosity and presence shaped the lives of everyone around him. He loved the latest gadgets and electronics and took pride in staying up to date with new technology. He researched every major decision with care and always had an informed opinion on world events and politics. He could also fix literally anything. Cars, watches, appliances, plumbing, electrical work, you name it. His workshop in the basement had every tool known to man, and friends and neighbors often stopped by looking for the most obscure part or gadget. He always had exactly what they needed and handed it over with a smile, as long as they promised to return it. Friends, neighbors, and family turned to him for advice about careers, finances, real estate, current affairs, and everyday questions large and small. He showed up without hesitation and would give the shirt off his back or his last penny for the people he loved. His steadiness, kindness, wisdom, and humor will be missed for the rest of our days.

He loved spending time with his close-knit family, and nothing brought him more joy than being the best Izya to his two favorite boys, Simon and Owen, and to his loyal sidekick Charlie, who rarely left his side. Summer days were often spent around his pool, grilling his famous Azeri lulya kebabs, filling the backyard with laughter, and welcoming family, friends, and neighbors with good food and plenty of vodka. He and his beloved wife, Elina, traveled the world throughout their forty-four years of marriage, creating a lifetime of memories his family will always treasure.

Isaac is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Elina; his daughters Anna Stein and Marina Stein Lundahl and her husband Ian; his mother Tanya Shteyn; his brothers Dr. Jacob Stein and his wife Nelly, and Roman Stein and his wife Yana. He leaves behind his adored grandsons Simon and Owen Lundahl, his loyal dog Charlie, his nieces and nephews Rebecca Stein, Dr. Boris Stein and his wife Milana, Michael Stein and his wife Ariel, and Rachel Stein, as well as many cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, and lifelong friends all over the world. He was predeceased by his father, Aron Shteyn.

The funeral will be held this Wednesday, November 26 at 10am at Ascher-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 44 Sumner Ave, Springfield, Massachusetts, with burial immediately following at Beth El Cemetery. Shiva will take place at the family home. Additional details will be shared with family and friends.

Memorial contributions in Isaac's memory may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute or the Neurosurgery Department at Tufts Medical Center.
