Jordan (Jordy) Rosenkrantz of Boynton Beach, Florida, formerly of Longmeadow, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, just weeks after celebrating his milestone 100th birthday on December 29.
Born on December 29, 1925, in Boston, Massachusetts, Jordy was the son of Rebekah and Abraham Rosenkrantz. The week he turned 18, in December 1943, he enlisted in the United States Navy to serve his country during World War II. He was stationed aboard the troop transport carrier U.S. General W. A. Mann, traveling around the world in support of the war effort.
After returning home from the war, Jordy began the next chapter of his life in Boston. Through neighbors who were "landsmen" of her family in Poland, he was introduced to Leona Horowitz of Springfield, Massachusetts. After just five dates, they became engaged and were married in November 1954. They began their life together in Brighton, Massachusetts, forming a partnership that would anchor everything that followed.
Jordy was a true entrepreneur at heart. He dreamed of owning his own business and often discussed those dreams over family dinners with Leona's brothers, Ben and Sam Horowitz. The three "brothers" went on to found Serv-U-Stores, beginning with a single corner hardware store. Over the next several decades, they built Serv-U into a successful chain of home improvement stores throughout Western Massachusetts and northern Connecticut. Jordy was especially proud that a second generation-six cousins-joined the business. Known for his creativity and marketing flair, he coined Serv-U's memorable slogan, "And where have you seen that lately?", which aired regularly on local radio and television throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
Jordy was an active member of Beth El Temple, attending services regularly and participating in the Brotherhood. His Jewish faith was deeply meaningful to him, and he traveled to Israel multiple times over the years, including on a Jewish Federation Mission.
Known for his humor, kindness, and gift for storytelling, Jordy was also famously handy and his children always had a list of home repairs whenever he'd visit. He was an avid golfer until his early 90's. He was warm, generous, and friendly-qualities that endeared him to friends, family, and customers alike.
Above all else, Jordy was a devoted family man. He leaves behind his children Arlene Remz and her husband Sandy, and Steve Rosenkrantz and his wife Diane, who were a constant source of pride. He was a loving grandfather to five grandchildren and a cherished great-grandfather to six great-grandchildren: Tamar Remz; Adina Tenby and her husband Josh and daughters Ella and Maisie; Jonah Remz and his wife Jenna and son Bodie; Jamie Emmons and her husband Craig and son Chase; and Matthew Rosenkrantz and his wife Madison and children Reese and Matthew Jr. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Leona.
Jordy's legacy lives on in the family he built, the values he passed down, the businesses he created, and the many lives he touched. He will be remembered with love, gratitude, and admiration.
