It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Lil Levine, who passed away peacefully at the amazing age of 100.
Born on August 14 1924, in Malden Massachusetts, Lil spent much of her life in Springfield MA, where she worked for many years as a dedicated bookkeeper and was a longtime congregant of Temple Beth El. Her devotion to family, faith, and friendship shaped a life full of purpose and generosity.
She was the beloved wife of Max Levine, with whom she shared 58 wonderful years of marriage until his passing. Together, they built a warm and loving home for their two sons, Ira (Deborah) and Lewis (Caren). Lil was a cherished grandmother to Josh, Emily, Rebecca, and Max, who brought her immense pride and joy.
She was predeceased by her dear siblings, sister Mollie and brother Abe. Throughout her life, the most important things to Lil were her family and friends. She loved entertaining and hosting friends and family for holidays. Whenever you walked through her door for holidays, one could always smell her famous matzo ball soup and brisket cooking. She had a knack for making everyone feel welcome, and we will always remember her warm heart, quick wit, and delicious cooking.
Lil was an avid card player, knitter and she enjoyed many summer trips to Cape Cod. For the past 13 years, she called The Residence at Great Woods in Norton MA, her home, where she was known for her radiant spirit, active participation in bingo and exercise classes, and for being a friend to all. Lil’s family is grateful to the entire staff at the Residence at Great Woods for their outstanding care and compassion they showed Lil.
She celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by those she loved most—her family and the vibrant community that had become her second family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, as she led a long and fruitful life.
A grave-side funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 13th at 1:30PM at the Temple Beth EL Cemetery at 366 Kings Highway, West Springfield, MA followed by a luncheon at Temple Beth El, 979 Dickinson Street, Springfield MA.
Shiva will be held at the home of Lewis & Caren Levine in Hull MA on Wednesday, May 14th from 3PM – 8PM. Shiva will also be held at the home of Ira Levine & Deborah Oberman in Las Vegas Nevada at a time/date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lil’s memory to a charity of your choice.
