Marcia Muriel Kahn passed away peacefully at Southwick Village, Southwick MA. on Sunday, September 20, 2026, two weeks before her 104th birthday,

Marcia was born in Boston in 1922 and was raised in New York City. She graduated high school at 16 and completed a degree at Hunter College, then went to work for Sperry Gyroscope as a draftsperson during World War II. Her interest in art and her drawing talents were recognized early in her life. Throughout her ten decades she created visual artwork in a broad range of media, including watercolor, oil paint, cast sculpture, photography, and assemblage using many kinds of materials.

Her parents, Herman and Sadye Leben, and her husband, Elliot Kahn, were business owners in the New York construction trade. Marcia raised her three children in New Rochelle, New York. She traveled extensively in the US, Europe, and Asia during her marriage and for the decades of her independent life. She brought back many objects from these journeys to display in her home. She was devoted to collecting minerals and shells. For many years she designed and crafted jewelry as Craftsman's Crucible, a business that specialized in jewelry for AKC dog breed owners. During the years she was active in casting sculpture in New York, she created a series of Nautilus Cups inspired by Renaissance Art she saw at the Wadsworth Athenaeum Museum of Art as a child in Hartford. A group of her Nautilus Cup sculptures are on display at the Westfield Athenaeum.

In her 80th year Marcia moved from New Rochelle, New York to Westfield. For the next two decades she lived independently, devoting her enormous energies to designing, building complex multimedia constructions that filled her home. Before moving to Westfield, she created the Cirque Cubique, a set of animated circus figures that she continued to expand. Selections of her artwork were the subject of solo exhibitions at the Westfield Athenaeum and in New Rochelle.

Marcia is survived by her daughter Linda and husband Tom Pickreign of Westfield; her son George and his wife Diana Kahn of Culver City, California; her son Paul and his wife Dominique Kahn of Cérences, France; her four grandchildren, their spouses, and four great grandchildren.

A funeral service open to all family, friends, and community members will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 29 at Ascher-Zimmerman Funeral Home, located at 44 Sumner Ave, Springfield, MA.

Private burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 30 at the Mount Eden Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York.

The family will observe Shiva on October 1 and 2 between 4 and 7 PM at the home of Linda and Tom Pickreign, 96 Glenwood Drive, Westfield. We welcome family and friends to gather, share memories, and offer comfort to the family.
