Marion Summers Reiter
Marion Summers Reiter, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away August 23rd surrounded by the love of those closest to her.
Marion was born on October 11, 1943, in the Bronx, New York, to Charlotte (Zwillinger) and Samuel Summers. She later moved with her family to Jersey City, New Jersey, where she spent her younger years.
Marion married David Reiter, with whom she shared her life and raised their three daughters. David passed away on July 30, 1999, and Marion carried his memory with her throughout the years.
Her greatest joy was her family. Marion was the loving mother of three daughters: Ilene Conklin and her husband, Michael; Andrea Larsen and her husband, Mike; and Karen Lancia and her husband, Scott. She was immensely proud of each of her daughters and their families, and she never missed an opportunity to talk about them. Her grandchildren brought her tremendous happiness: Craig and Seth Conklin; Jessica, Joshua and Deanna Mazliah; and Allison and David Lancia. She was also delighted to become a great-grandmother to Larsen. Her family was her greatest accomplishment, and she treasured watching her daughters and grandchildren build lives of their own.
Marion will be remembered most of all as a mother and grandmother whose family was at the center of her life. Her memory will live on through her daughters, grandchildren, great grandchild, extended family, and the lifelong friends who loved her dearly. She leaves behind a family who will miss her deeply, but who will carry her love and memory with them always and forever.
Marion was blessed with friendships that lasted a lifetime. Among her most treasured friends were Sue Decker and Fran Schwartz, who were much more than friends-they were her "sisters from other mothers." Their enduring friendship was a special part of Marion's life and a testament to the bonds she formed with the people she loved.
In her later years, Marion also formed wonderful friendships at Glenmeadow. The friends and community she found there became an important and meaningful part of her life. She enjoyed the companionship, laughter, conversations, Mah Jongg, canasta, knitting, crafting and the many new friendships she made at Glenmeadow. She was grateful for the people who became part of her life.
A gathering in loving memory of Marion Reiter will take place at Glenmeadow 24 Tabor crossing, Longmeadow Tuesday, 8/25 at noon in Cotz Hall.
The family will observe Shiva at Ilene and Michael's home, 66 Crescent Road Longmeadow, welcoming family and friends to gather, share memories and offer comfort to the family.
