Peter was born In Hamburg Germany and escaped from the Nazi regime in 1938, fleeing to Trinidad at age 12 with his immediate family.
He spent his formative years in Trinidad and completed his college education there at Queens Royal College before enrolling in Tufts Dental School in Boston.
He served in the Air Force during the Korean war and was stationed at Clarke air force base in the Philippines
In Boston he met and married Elaine (Latow) Laband and after settling in Northampton they raised their family and were happily married for 37 years until she fell ill and passed away in 1990.
Peter remarried Barbara (Harlow) Laband and they enjoyed 33 years of marriage together.

Peter was a man of many passions; he was a devoted husband and father, a successful Dentist who built a large practice in Northampton and taught part time at Harvard Dental School.
In the early 1970s, recognizing the impact that computers would have, he taught himself how to program in Fortran.
He was involved in town government as a long standing member of the Zoning Board of Appeals. He was an avid outdoorsman, who was skilled at skiing, mountain climbing, camping, sailing, lobstering, piloting small airplanes and more. He passed his love of these hobbies on to his children, nephews and anyone else who was interested. As an active member of his local synagogue, he served as president of the congregation for several years. In his retirement he continued his community involvement on the board of directors of his condo association, and spent time golfing, boating, fishing, lobstering, travelling abroad and cruising in the Caribbean. He never missed an opportunity to tell his wonderful jokes and was known for remembering birthdays and anniversaries with the cards he made at home on his computer. Dr. Laband's legacy will live on in the many lives he touched.
