Green Burial
Celebrate life sustainably with Green Burials. Choose an eco-friendly farewell.
Ascher Zimmerman is dedicated to the sustainable future of end-of-life care, and are proud to offer green burial practices and have been since our founding in 1954. Traditionally, Jewish burial customs have been hailed as ‘the original green burial;’ honoring the natural process intended for our bodies to be reunited with the earth. The small green leaf icon next to our offerings indicate that they are approved as sustainable and natural options by the Green Burial Council; a tax-exempt, nonprofit organization working to encourage environmentally sustainability in the field of funeral service.
As we use fewer toxic chemicals and limit our carbon footprint, the funeral industry is also adapting. Many are going back to what was once customary for centuries before the embalming process came into the picture. Those who plan for a funeral often choose a green burial because it is a natural way to give your remains back to nature and nurture the environment.
You can be environmentally conscious with a green burial as your remains help preserve a natural burial area. Green burial is a conscious choice to conserve natural resources as you choose to use non-toxic and biodegradable materials for the burial and natural ways of body preparation.
